Ann Prendergast -
In one of the early Catholic manuscripts - I think father Therry's letters there
is a reference to "Young Hogg, the Rev. Mother's nephew being down at Subiacco
" - this was the Benedictine convent on the Parramatta River and the Rev
Mother was Constantina LeClerc from Yorkshire originally. Her father was a Frenchman
and her mother English and she received a considerable sum of money as part
of her mother's
estate. I assume she was related to Young Hogg on her mother's side.
The date would be about the late 1850s early 1860s - the nuns were brought
to the colony, as it then was, by the first Catholic Archbishop, John Bede Polding
O.S.B., in the 1840s. The Benedictines set up schools for boys and girls. "Subiaco"
was the first boarding school for girls in the colony. Not much seems to be
known about Hogg and I assume he
was either a visitor to the colony or an immigrant and that he had money as
did the family of Constantina LeClerc,[ known in the order as Dame Magdalene].
Has anyone any information about this man as I have no further details.

He is named as my great grand mothers husband on her death cert. and on my grand

cert. he is named as Robert Percy Hogg. Of the two nephews of JAMES HOGG that

In 1836, she married a Baptist preacher, John Dixon RICHARDSON at St. Bees Chapel,
Whitehaven. The family moved to South Shields, Durham. The 1851 census
indicates that the family was briefly in Somerset in 1842, prior to settling
in South Shields about 1844. Jane Richardson nee HOGG died in South Shields
in 1876. After her husbands death in 1856, Jane continued to run
a school associated with the strict Baptist
church in South Shields.
Jane HOGG had a sister, Elizabeth who was born in 1829, South Shields.

Claire Grey
- I am descended from the family of John Hogg born July 5 approx 1779, who married
Elizabeth Lydstone Muggridge at St James in Westminster in London on 24 Aug
1807. He was supposed to be born in Scotland and be a jeweller.Other family
records call him George. They had 6 children, Elizabeth born in London in 1813,
Annie, June 5th 1815, Georgina Elenora Duncanson Freer born Oct 2 1818, George
Oscar Freer born June 16, 1816 and Alfred.( date unknown) The last 5 are said
be born in Perth but I have found no records there yet. The dates are from a
birthday book. They had links in Brixham Devon, with the Rev Lyte, author of
the hym 'Abide with Me' whose daughter married a John Roughton Hogg, Lyte's
curate. John Roughton Hogg's parents said to have come from Kettering, his father
called James Hogg. Witnesses at his wedding: Wm E Hogg and Rosa Hogg. I have
not yet established a family connection. My cousins own a tea Caddy with 'Catherine
Hogg Dunbar' written on it.
This is all I know about the family ,anyone with any connections or information
would be welcome,
Karen Walker - If you would like information about the Hoggs in Nottinghamshire, please let me know and I will gladly supply you with the info available to me.
Catherine Hogg - my name was catherine hogg until my mother remarried. when i was 9yrs old my father derek hogg died. i dont have any information other than he had 1 sister and 2 brothers. 1 brother was known to live in America i dont know any of their names My fathers mother lived in Ripon street in Ingol.preston.lancashire. My mothers name was marion and I also had 1 brother called Derek. I dont know if there is anyone out there with any information for me but if anyone knows of my family which I havent seen for 25yrs could they contact me.
Janet Few - I am searching for the family of John HOGG who was born about 1800, probably in Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland England (he changes his mind about where and when he was born and even his christian name which doesn't help). He is supposed to have married Elizabeth PEARSON betwen 1851 and 1854 but no trace of this marriage has been found in England or Scotland. Given his age, he may well have been married to someone else before this. John and Elizabeth moved to Morpeth, Northumberland and had 4 children:-
Any details of John's baptism, marriage or descendants welcome.
Adam Monk - Desperately trying to find Gavin HOGG I don't think he ever married but helped to raise his sisters children when she was widowed when the children were still young. Although I know where his 3 sisters were born, 2 at Binsted in Hampshire and 1 in Somerset, and that his parents were James and Mary Hogg, I do not have any idea where he was born. I know he was someone in authority at a drapery company in London (possibly called Copestake Sampson) I have a portrait of him which was hung in his office. The only sister to marry was Mary HOGG who married John Stamp in 1846 they had the following children Mary, William, Alfred and James - when John Stamp died Gavin took over and sent them all to Alton grammar school. His three sisters were born in 1817,1820 and 1830 so this is a rough guideline to his age. Certainly not in evidence on the 1881 census.
Derek Hogg - I am researching the Hogg families in Gloucestershire, England. Earliest relative so far is Edward Hogg @1650 in Pitchcombe, Glos
Jan Collins - My ggggrandmother, Isabella
Hogg was born in 1800 somewhere in the north of England. In 1823 she married
Joseph Codling in Gateshead and they had several children including Isabella
born at Easington in 1842. She is my gggrandmother. Anyway, the entire family
moved to America in the mid 1800's. Family names included William, Joseph, Elizabeth
(who apparently died before the family crossed the sea), Isabella, and Jane.
I can't seem to go back any further on this Hogg line and I'm wondering if you
have any suggestions. Thanks for your time!
Carolyn Hewitt - Alexander and Elizabeth HOGG (nee Stevens) were my gggg grandparents. Their son William HOGG was born in 1862 at Kilrea, Derry, Ireland. He had a brother Samuel but I have no information on any other siblings or Samuel for that matter. William HOGG married Mary HIGGINS (born 25/9/1866) in 1888. Their children were Irene Stevens HOGG (my grandmother), Marguret Evelyn HOGG and Janette May HOGG and Elizabeth HOGG
Becky -
I am up against a wall trying to find the father of Washington Hogg (born
1842, married 3/19/1864 To Meranda Mount, in Indiana???) I believe his
father may be James Hogg born about 1812 in Virginia who married Avilla from
NY. Rumor has it that his father was an immigrant from Ireland named Remy/
Raney Hogg. Suggestions??
Clay Hogg's Family - Ireland>Iowa
Glenice Sveinson - i am looking for ancestors of James Hogg, emigrated from Armagh Ireland, married to Anne Shaw and settled in Turnberry township in Huron County Ontario
Charles S. Barton - Do you have any information on Daniel Hogg who arrived in this country around 1923? His wife Elizabeth Martha Steel Hogg and 10 of her 12 children arrived on December 13, 1924. Their two oldest Mary Jane (Mae) and Daniel, Jr. arrived sometime in the spring/summer of 1924. They settled in Southwestern Pennsylvania. While I have detailed information on the Hoggs from my grandfather/grandmother and their descendants, I do not have much on their parents or grand parents other than their names. The Hoggs emigrated from Balnamore, County Antrim, Ireland. To my knowledge both of my grandparents were born in Ireland. I am new at his and kind of hit a wall as far as tracing my ancestors. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
Wendy Hogg Fabina - I am descended from Elizabeth Hogg, who immigrated from Northern Ireland ca. 1800 to Pennsylvania with her children . They eventually settled in Butler County, PA and are referred to as the "Slippery Rock Hoggs". My gg grandfather, William Ritchie Hogg left PA to go to Jackson County, Iowa abt 1860. His son, Robert, my g grandfather, married and returned to PA in 1911, settling in Armstrong County. I have quite a bit of information from the time they came to America, am very interested in information regarding when their ancestry was in Ireland and Scotland.
Graeme Hogg - It is generally believed that my family relates back to one of the brothers of James Hogg, The Ettrick Shepherd. My G-Grandfather Samuel Hogg was born in Co Tyrone, N-Ireland ca1828-30. His father, also Samuel would have been born ca1808-10.
William Hogg & Mary Beattie ran a farm at Stobohope in Peebleshire & most of their family lived in that area & are buried at the Stobo cemetary. David Hogg & Helen Oliver`s family do not appear to match. Robert Hogg & Elizabeth Oliver vanish after their son William was born in 1807, appearing again in 1828 when they had a daughter (Elizabeth) christened at Kilmory on the Isle of Arran.
In 1833 an Isabella Hogg married William Paisley at Kilmory & had 4 daughters there. They had a 5th at Ettrick then in 1846 migrated to Broome, New York. They had 9 in total.
As census records show no other Hogg`s on Arran, I believe Isabella to be a daughter of Robert & Elizabeth. In your family lists you indicate that Robert died in 1833 & that Elizabeth went to America that same year. I am hoping you may be able to pass on to me any data regarding this, whether she was accompanied or where she may have settled. I have strong feelings that the Samuel I am researching, if a son may have have followed sometime later as I am unable to find any record of dearh in either Scotland or Ireland. Any information you can provide me I will truely be greatfull for, & if I can contribute to you I certainly will.

Nathan My Gr Gr Grandmother was Mary Hogg who I have found conflicting info on, on the web. She was born in either 1802 or 1808 depending on which files you look at. I have a letter written by a relative in 1927 when that relative was 80 yrs old and he said that Mary was living near him in Lowellville, Mahoning Co, Ohio in 1855. That is the last reference I have ever found for her and I believe that is possibly where she may be buried? She married Thomas McArthur in 1829 in Fife Scotland where they were both from. It is believed that Thomas died in Scotland before Mary and their 7 children came to the US in aprox 1850 to 1854. Any help on info on this family would be much appreciated. Thanks ndhsr@yahoo.com

Charles S. Barton - Do you have any information on Daniel Hogg who arrived in this country around 1923? His wife Elizabeth Martha Steel Hogg and 10 of her 12 children arrived on December 13, 1924.
